Professional Goal Statement
Nursing is a gratifying profession where the sky is the limit and satisfaction is the reward. As a nurse educator, I will express my passion for learning by incorporating features from previous roles, such as clinical assessments, practical application of theory, evaluation, and role modeling into advanced nursing practice. I intend to inspire students to provide excellent care and knowledge to their patients by preparing them for the ever-changing and challenging field of nursing. Using a holistic approach, I will incorporate the imperative values reflected in the National League for Nurses (2005) Scope of Practice for Academic Nurse Educators, such as quality, trust, autonomy, advocacy, accountability, knowledge, and inquiry. Through learning and application, students will expand their knowledge and autonomy in the field of nursing.
As an educator, it is my responsibility to create an atmosphere of excitement and opportunity. I will function as a valuable resource to guide the students through challenging problem-solving situations by applying current evidenced-based practice. Critiquing individual student performance will be accomplished through the use of reflective writing, antidotal entries, assessment evaluation, and grading rubrics, allowing me to provide constructive feedback in an acceptable timeframe allowing for correction and improvement. In addition, I will strive to instill in my students the value of life-long learning. I am anxious to begin my journey into the educational discipline of theory, lecture, and student government, as well as policy and curriculum development.
